Week of December 14th

Well, our three snow days pushed our schedule around a bit. I chose not to give the spelling test Friday because we hadn't had very much time to practice the words in school. So, I will be giving that spelling test on Tuesday the 15th.

I will send home new spelling words on Tuesday and I will test these words as usual on Friday the 18th. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

We will have homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

We check-out at the library on Wednesday.

Week of December 7th

This week we will be having homework on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

We check-out in the IMC on Tuesday.

*WINTER REMINDERS*

*Please be sure to send snowpants and boots as well as coats, mittens, hats, etc with your child. We will have outdoor recess most days even with the snow, so it's important to send these items.

*As winter storms approach be sure to check the news stations or the district website for school delays and cancellation information. In the event of an early dismissal due to snow I will attempt to contact all parents to make arrangements for dismissal. Please email or send a note to let me know your preferred method for contacting you during the day. Email and/or your daytime phone number are usually best.

Thank you!

Week of November 30

This week we will have homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We will check-out at the library on Friday.

Your child will be bringing home a Christmas Tree paper in a sleeve today. These are for you to decorate at home with any items that you have on hand. Send them back to school as soon as they are finished and we will display them in the hallway until Winter Break. After we are done displaying them they will go inside of our first grade scrapbooks. Please try not to use anything to decorate that might get moldy as they will be saved until the end of the year.

Week of November 9th

I apologize again for being a day late with this. Hopefully I can get back into my regular routine for next week :)

Report cards will be sent home Wednesday. They will be in a sealed envelope. Please be looking for these when your child gets home. If you have any questions about report cards you can contact me, otherwise we will discuss them at your child's conference.

Conferences are scheduled for Thursday the 12th and Tuesday the 17th.

Reminder that picture retakes are on Wednesday. You can email me if you would like a new order form and I'll send it with your child today. Otherwise you can pick up the order sheets in the office. If you are unhappy with the pictures you did purchase you can get retakes by bringing back the entire package of pictures that were sent home last week. If you have questions please let me know.

This week we will be having homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Normally I do not send homework on Friday. I am doing so this week because of conferences on Thursday. I know many of you will be here at school and I do not want you to have to worry about getting homework done with your child that night as well.

We will check-out in the library on Friday afternoon.

Also, a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Friday the 6th.

This week we will have homework Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Friday will be our Harvest Celebration. Students are given the choice to bring a non-violent (no swords, guns, etc) and school appropriate costume to school on Friday. We will have a parade around the track at 2:45 to show off our costumes, parents are invited to come for the parade :) After the parade we will go back to the classroom for our celebration, parents are welcome to stay for this as well if they would like to.

Last Night's Homework

Due to an error on my part, I did not notice that last night's homework asked for students to bring coins to school. I usually cross this part off of the homework directions, but missed it this time. I apologize to all of you who sent the coins today. Students will be bringing them back home. In the future if homework asks you to send money, please disregard it. I use fake coins for all instruction at school. I will also make sure that I don't miss any more of those directions either. Sorry for my mistake.

I apologize for not updating this yesterday, I was out of town. If you have any questions please let me know :)

This week we will have math homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

We checked-out library books yesterday during computer lab since our normal check-out time would have been on Friday. If your child did not get to check-out yesterday, they may bring their books back and I will let them check-out in the morning before school.

Don't forget that Friday is an EARLY DISMISSAL at 12:15.

Week of September 14th

This week we will have math homework on Monday and Thursday nights only.

Students should be bringing home a paper book on Monday or Tuesday. Please have them read it to you, then sign the book and send it back to school. Every time we have 100 books signed and returned we will have a celebration. (I put a sticker by your signature and send the book home again. These are great books that students can usually read independently so they are wonderful to keep for students to practice reading at home.)

Don't forget we have a half day on Friday. We dismiss at 12:15

Have a great week!

Misc.

Some of you will find pink student learning expectation sheets in your child's blue folder. These are the things that will be assessed on the report cards and that we expect students to learn while in first grade. If you were at the parent night last night you already have these and your child won't be bringing home another copy. If you have any questions about these please let me know.

There is no homework tonight! Homework is always due the day after it is sent home, but if you forgot or didn't get to an assignment just send it to school as soon as it's done.

Book orders were due today, but I didn't send out a reminder. Therefore, if you still would like to order books, I will accept orders through Thursday.

Thank you!

Book Orders

Students will be bringing home book orders today. Please do not feel obligated to purchase books. I send home orders throughout the school year as a way to provide you with the opportunity to purchase books at a great value.

These book orders will be due back to school by Wednesday, September 9th. There are instructions attached to the front of the order booklets. As always, don't hesitate to contact me with questions.

Notes Coming Home Today

Students will be bringing home three notes today.

One note is about September Scrip Orders and is printed on green paper.

The second note will be on pink paper and will explain our Charger of the Week program. This is done as part of our social studies curriculum. Each student is assigned a week when they will be the Charger of the Week. The week your child is assigned is written on the back of the pink letter.

The third note is a half sheet on blue paper. This note explains what we do with the paper books we send home. Students will be bringing home the first paper book tonight. It is called We Can. If you read the book with your child, sign the book, and send it back to school tomorrow, your child will get a sticker in their data folder.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to email me. We will talk about all of these things in greater detail at our first grade information night on Tuesday, September 8th from 5:30-6:00.

Welcome to Our Classroom Blog

Welcome to our blog! We'll be using this blog to communicate what goes on in our classroom throughout the school year. This is where I will post event information, homework assignment information, and general classroom announcements each day.

In maintaining safety for our students I ask that if you ever need to contact me about something you've read in the blog, please email me at my school address rather than leaving a message in the comments section.

I hope that we will find this blog to be a useful tool for classroom communication. I look forward to the upcoming school year!
